The Report assesses economic, social and territorial cohesion in the EU. It also shows both positive and negative trends in EU regions, cities and rural areas. The Commission published the 8th Cohesion Report on 9 February, presenting a first picture of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic at the regional level. Article 174 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) defines the Union’s objective for strengthening its economic, social and territorial cohesion, for an overall harmonious development. Territorial cohesion has been included for the first time in the Lisbon Treaty.
